The American Friends Service Commitee is a 90 year old Quaker-based peace and justice organization that includes people of various faiths who are committed to social justice, peace, and humanitarian service. Its work is based on the belief in the worth of every person and faith in the power of love to overcome violence and injustice. In 1977, AFSC accepted the Nobel Peace Prize with British Friends Service Council on behalf of all Quakers. Principle Program(s) of AFSC: In the Oakland office we have a criminal justice program, a homeless organizing project, and an Asia/Pacific Island Community Action Program. Our Valley offices have immigration and popular education programs. Our S.F. office does peace, counter-recruitment and Middle East work.
